Concept

SMART topics means topic based learning. Based on a certain topic shown in texts, pictures or situations, students solve manifold tasks of different length and difficulty level.

SMART topics
  • offers assessable, feasible and self-explaining projects for English students of grade 5 to 7
  • and a broad range of tasks and methods for free learning activities
  • meets the curriculum requirements
  • combines the theoretical findings of the latest research in language didactics with the practical experiences gained by testing the tasks with school classes
  • can be used in combination with a text book or independently from a text book.

Contents

There are 4 packages of SMART topics covering the topics:
School - Body and Clothes - Birthday - Asking and Giving Directions

Each SMART topics package contains of:
  • 16 work cards
  • 8 help cards
  • 1 manual with solutions, competence overview, tests and evaluation sheet
The work cards demand various methods to solve the assignments. The different levels of difficulty of the tasks make SMART topics suitable for all students in the class.
The help cards assist students with information on methods like mind mapping, scanning etc., as well as grammatical information f.e. ordinal numbers, time, questions and answers.

The manual contains essential information for the teacher as objectives, concept and structure of SMART topics. The manual also offers teachers various options to apply SMART topics. For the evaluation of the students, there are additional test and tools for self-assessment.
